Stringer Flavour

web site screen shot

H E Stringer Ltd have been creating and supplying flavourings, aromas and extracts for over 50 years. For their 50th anniversary they wanted to make a statement on the web that reflected the changes made in the company and their high standard of service. They produce quality flavours at high speed and meet the strict food quality standards of the British Retail Consortium.

Requirements

To create a web site to reflect the company's business style and forward looking vision. The site needed to allow visitors to easily browse flavour products by various categories. A quick select feature was needed to allow all flavours matching a particular name such as 'orange' to be listed in one go whether they be organic flavours, oils or animal nutrition flavours.

The site needed to invite food manufacturers and developers to request flavour samples, new flavour development and general enquiries.

Behind the scenes a full content management solution was needed allowing staff to easily add flavours to an online database, associate these flavours with flavour names, types and applications. It would also be an advantage for the content management system to cope with handling other business procedures.

An online marketing campaign would also be required.

The site was built utilising Microsoft ASP (Active Server Pages). We designed the database from information and meetings with the client. Although about flavours, the site also needed to emphasise the human touch of customer service. So, images of people were also used in the site to provide that human touch.

Simple navigation makes it quick to move around the site. The concept of a 'Flavour Centre' was developed as being a hub leading not only to listings of flavours but also information and documentation.

For each flavour in the database a specification sheet was produced in PDF format. These were created in word and supplied to the client for later editing if necessary. The content mangement system developed handles all data entry and document uploads.

Flavour sample requests - for this we basically built a small shopping cart application that enabled users to build a list of flavour samples needed. Upon submitting their request an email request is automatically forwarded to the client and a confirmation email to the user with relevant documentation for each flavour automatically attached to the email.

News application - database driven to allow the client to easily add news and press release items via the content management system.

Online marketing - we optimise the pages for search engine listing as well as manage a pay-per-click campaign for the client.
